Vendor diligence

Which AEO vendors can prove they cover Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot?

Nobody can prove it to you the way you would want, and we measure none of the four: Perplexity is the only engine we hold a key for. Two of these surfaces have no public API at all, so a figure for them is a person looking rather than a run.

That is the whole answer, and the rest of this page is the test behind it. Engine coverage is the one claim in this category a buyer can falsify before paying anybody, which is why we treat it as a reputation question rather than a feature question. Four surfaces make it bite hardest, because none of them can be checked the casual way: Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot.

We are not going to rank our competitors on it. We have never bought their products, we cannot see their infrastructure, and a scored table of qualities its author cannot observe would be the least trustworthy thing on this site. What we can give you is the question that gets an honest answer out of anyone, including us, and our own answer written down where you can hold us to it.

The four surfaces, and what proof looks like for each

The important split is not which engine is more popular. It is whether a public API exists, because that decides whether a number can be reproduced at all.

SurfacePublic API?So a coverage claim rests on…Ask for
Claude Yes, Anthropic publishes one Whether the vendor holds a key and actually calls it A stored raw response with a model identifier and a timestamp
Gemini Yes, Google publishes one for the model The same, plus which surface was queried: the model is not the search result The same, and a sentence naming what was called
Google AI Overviews No public API Scraping a results page, or a person checking by hand Which of those two, how often, and from where
Microsoft Copilot No public API The same, with one first-party exception you can use yourself Their method, then check it against Bing Webmaster Tools
A fan of question threads converging from the left on a layered core; from the other side an answer card leaves, a line of it carrying a brand marked in gold

Claude and Gemini: a key away, or not built

Both have a documented API, so coverage here is a commercial decision rather than a technical obstacle. That cuts both ways: a vendor who covers them should find it easy to prove, and a vendor who does not should find it easy to say so.

Ours, plainly. The Claude adapter exists in our codebase and holds no key, so no run has ever queried it. Gemini has no adapter at all, so it is not one key away from working for us. Neither appears in any number we publish, including our own audited score, which was measured on Perplexity and says so on the page.

AI Overviews and Copilot: no API, so no run

These two are different in kind, and the difference is the thing a loose coverage list hides. Neither has a public API, so nobody queries them the way an API-backed engine is queried. Any figure for them is produced by scraping a results page or by a person checking on the day they looked — both legitimate, neither reproducible in the sense a monthly series needs.

Copilot carries the one gift in this whole area: the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools is first-party, free, and about your own site. You can open it without buying anything from anyone, which makes it the cheapest cross-check available on a Copilot claim. We say the same thing on our FAQ in the section written against ourselves, because it is a reason not to pay us.

Why this belongs under reputation

A reputation signal is only worth something if you can check it. Testimonials cannot be checked. Logos cannot be checked. Case studies are selected by the person showing them. Engine coverage can be checked, by one question, before money moves — and the shape of the answer tells you how the rest of the reporting will be written.

The seven questions to ask an AEO vendor puts this first for that reason, and answers all seven about us including the four we lose. This page is that one question narrowed to the four surfaces where it is hardest to verify and easiest to overstate. If you want the broader interview, read that page; if you want the engine answer alone, it is above.

A phrase worth distrusting, ours included. “All the AI engines we track” is true of any vendor by construction, because it quantifies over whatever they track. On this site it means Perplexity, and we write that clarification next to the phrase everywhere it appears rather than leaving it to be inferred.

The uncomfortable part: our own answer

We publish our own audited visibility score, and it is the worst one available: Bungad was named in none of the eight answers we measured, for a visibility score of zero out of a hundred, with the whole run, the questions and the sources the engine reached for instead. That run covered one engine. It did not touch Claude, Gemini, AI Overviews or Copilot, and we did not quietly leave that out.

So the honest reading of this page, if you came to it asking who is good: we are the wrong purchase for these four engines today, and we would rather lose the sale here than be found out in diligence. The vendor-level comparison, including where each of our competitors beats us, is on AEO tools compared.

What we refuse to put on this page

A number about a competitor that we have not read on that competitor's own page, with the date we read it. We hold that line because we tested it: when we checked a rival's figure against what an assistant reported for the same rival, the two disagreed, and the comparison page states the disagreement rather than picking the convenient side. An engine-reported fact about a vendor is a lead, not a source — which is, incidentally, the entire argument for measuring what engines say about you in the first place.

Common questions

Which AEO vendor has the best reputation for Claude coverage?

We will not rank anyone on this, because we have not bought their products and a ranking of unobservable things is worth nothing. What we will tell you is the test: Anthropic publishes an API, so Claude coverage is automatable, which means a vendor claiming it can hand you a stored raw response carrying a model identifier and a timestamp. If the answer is a screenshot, the coverage is a person looking. Our own answer is that Bungad does not measure Claude: the adapter is built and holds no key, and no run has ever queried it.

Can anyone automate Google AI Overviews or Microsoft Copilot?

Neither surface has a public API, so no vendor queries them the way an API-backed engine is queried. A figure for either one rests on scraping a results page or on a person checking by hand, and the honest version of that claim says which. Copilot has one first-party route a buyer can use without any vendor: the AI Performance report in Bing Webmaster Tools, which is free and reports on your own site.

Does Bungad measure Gemini?

No. There is no Gemini adapter in our codebase at all, so it is not a key away from working. Perplexity is the only engine we hold a key for, and it is the only engine any automated run of ours has ever queried.

Why is engine coverage a reputation question rather than a feature question?

Because it is the one claim in this category you can falsify before you spend anything, and how a vendor answers it predicts how they will answer everything else. A vendor who lists six engines without saying which are queried through an API and which are looked at by hand has told you something about their reporting that no testimonial can.

Should I buy from Bungad if I need these four engines?

No. If you need Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews or Microsoft Copilot figures this month, buy a tracker that already has them, or open the Bing Webmaster Tools AI Performance report for Copilot. Saying so costs us the sale and it is the only answer this page can honestly give.
